Application Process

You will need to provide the following documents:

  • Current first aid certification
  • Proof you are at least 18 years of age
  • Completed criminal record check, including vulnerable sector search, for yourself and:
    • a completed criminal record check, including vulnerable sector search, for anyone who is over 18 years of age who lives in the home or who may be in your home on a regular basis during regular operating hours
    • a statement disclosing any prior criminal involvement of any person younger than 18 years who resides in your home
  • Three (3) satisfactory personal references from non-relatives that corroborate your suitability for working with children
  • Physician’s note that states you are mentally and physically able to care for children

Upon receiving and evaluating your application form, we will reach out to engage in a more in-depth conversation. This will provide an avenue for you to ask additional queries and ascertain if our agency aligns with your needs.

It’s essential for our Consultant to meet everyone residing in the home (including tenants, spouses, children, etc.) at least once before you finalize your contract.

 A safety walkthrough of your residence with one of our knowledgeable Consultants to ensure your environment is optimized for a successful setup.

  • Obtain local police clearance for all residents aged 18 and above
  • Provide 3 references (form will be provided)
  • Share a sample activity planner
  • Present a sample menu planner
  • Submit a toy inventory checklist
  • Complete an interview questionnaire

Inspections

Licensed family day home agencies are required to monitor all family day home program educators under their agency at least 6 times per year with both scheduled and unscheduled visits.

Agency consultants use a standard Government of Alberta checklist (PDF, 186 KB) to ensure adherence to the family day home standards.
